(Bangkok Post file photos)The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) chairman has brushed aside criticism over the qualification requirements for Election Commission (EC) members under the new charter, saying the new criteria will help recruit more experienced officials. Current members of public independent organisations, including EC members, who do not meet qualification requirements under the new charter will lose their jobs when the constitution comes into effect. Some fear EC members Mr Somchai and Pravich Rattanapian will lose their jobs. Mr Somchai added that the new requirements will affect members of several independent bodies. He said the new criteria calls for stricter qualifications for EC members and other members of independent bodies in order to find new members who are more level-headed and ready to listen to others.
